Dempsey said he is pleased with Schiets’ performance this season. The coach added that Schiets has benefited from having a strong group of athletes supporting him up front. “Justin has great football instincts and gets to the ball quick,” Dempsey said. “He takes care of the box for us. He’s an inside linebacker who forces a lot of things inside out and chases some things down from the inside. He’s very physical when he gets there. We play a 3-3 defense and our front is really good. Our linebackers are really good. That’s what really makes it work.”-Head Coach Greg Dempsey, Toledo Central Catholic, gdempsey@centralcatholic.org ********
…..an equal partner in the success this year has been an Irish defense that boasts a combined line and linebacking corps that Dempsey labels as his best ever. The outside linebackers are 5-10 185 pound senior Elijah Anderson and 6-1, 215 pound junior Dallas Fields, and the middle linebacker is 5-11, 215 pound sophomore Justin Schiets. “It works because we have a bond together,” said Anderson, one of the team’s few returning starters from 2015. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a young guy or older. We all connect and get along. That’s why we have good chemistry together.” Fields, who also earned first team all district honors, had 56 tackles and eight TFL’s in the regular season. Anderson, an all district second team selection had 65 tackles and 17 TFL’s. Schiets led the team in tackles w 69, (thru 10 games) including 13 for losses. Steve Junge, Toledo Blade Sports, sjunga@theblade.com ******Justin Schiets - LB - Toledo Central Catholic - 2019. Physical. Reads and reacts to ball. Plays downhill. Gets off blocks to get outside. Keeps shoulders square. Gets thru traffic. Needs to get faster/quicker. Needs to improve change of direction. Finishes. Good prospect. –Coach John McCallister, MSROHIO.com
